Destination: Middlesbrough

Taking a direct quote from a tourist guide – “offering an unforgettable experience in northern hospitality, Middlesbrough is alive with activity seven days a week. Make sure you combine a trip to our superb shopping venues with a visit to our award winning attractions or a meal or night out in one of our quality venues. Better still; stay for a short break in one of our great value hotels and you can do the lot!” I remain unconvinced, but there seem to be a number of attractions within 20 miles of the town.

Middlesbrough is an ideal touring base for exploring Captain Cook Country and the Tees Valley. Try the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum in Stewart Park (close to the site where Cook was born in 1728) and explore his life and times through exciting interactive displays. Newham Grange Leisure Farm offers fun for kids of all ages. Visit the famous Transporter Bridge Visitor Centre and check out how the fascinating floodlit landmark was conceived and built. There is also the Dorman Museum – a local museum with “something for everyone”.

Detached properties sold for an average of £308,375, with terraced properties fetching £96,554. Billingham, with an overall average price of £165,289 was cheaper than nearby Wynyard Estate (£280,629), Wolviston (£322,750) and Wynyard (£418,402). The distance from Middlesbrough to Billingham is 3 miles and takes approximately 5 minutes

House prices for the Stockton on Tees area
Most of the sales in Stockton-On-Tees in 2016 were semi-detached properties which on average sold for £130,477. Terraced properties had an average sold price of £87,643 and detached properties averaged at £208,823. Stockton-On-Tees, with an overall average price of £130,029, was similar in terms of sold prices to nearby Norton (£135,190), but was cheaper than Fairfield (£148,986) and Hartburn (£172,744). In the past year house prices in Stockton-On-Tees were similar to the year before and similar to 2007 when they averaged at £130,072.
