York – Chocolate and Vikings

Few British cities offer the magical charm and beauty of York. Outstanding architecture and 2,000 years of history combine with bustling shopping streets and award-winning attractions. With over 30 museums, galleries and tours to choose from in its compact centre, York offers something for everyone all year round. Visitors can enjoy first class shopping in major high street stores, traditional gift shops and independent boutiques, while the fashion conscious head for the new designer outlet village on the city’s outskirts. Evening entertainment is equally varied and might involve a moonlit boat cruise, a concert or theatre visit, or ghost tour around one of the most haunted cities in Europe. A wide range of restaurants serves both traditional English and fine international cuisine, and the city reputedly has a pub or wine bar for every night of the year! An exciting calendar of events and festivals runs throughout the year and includes the ever popular Jorvik Viking Festival and St Nicholas Christmas Festival, together with the nation’s largest annual Festival of Food and Drink. A wealth of accommodation suiting all tastes and budgets complement Yorkshire’s famous hospitality, making York the ideal destination for your short break.
