There are certain times of the year when we get inundated with telephone calls from law graduates asking “have you got any training contracts” or “where shall I look for a paralegal post”, or just “um er have you got any jobs?”
There are now more people looking for legal work and less jobs, partly as a result of the recession, the large impending changes, the property market collapse and a backlog of graduates still looking from previous years. Through all of this people have still found training contracts, started a legal career and found opportunities. Law is becoming more and more accessible at the academic stage and those who make an effort to find work and progress their career without too many obvious disadvantages will almost always succeed.
Check your CV carefully (quick ad here for our CV Services), write a plan of action – and follow it. What do you want to do? Are you aiming for summer work experience first, a training contract second, or have you got plenty of experience already and just seeking a training contract? Which fields of law interest you, and do you know what salaries different areas of law attract?
Don’t bother calling recruitment agencies to start with (particularly us) as they are usually unable to assist unless you have specific prior experience in an area of law. Please feel free to call all our competitors, particularly the bigger ones, lots of times….
If you get really stuck you could try our legal careers coaching service – we have slots available in London, Chester and Milton Keynes at various times in the year.
